Public Hearing: Holiday Waiver
Public Hearing: Holiday Waiver
Dolton School District 149 is holding a public hearing regarding holiday waivers. This waiver does not represent a change in district practice; however, holding the public hearing is required under the law.
A Public Hearing is scheduled for May 18, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the proposed modification of School Code (5/24-2 Holidays). Public Act 96-0640 was enacted on August 24, 2009. This Public Act added new language to Section 24-2 of the Illinois School Code stating that a school board or eligible entity is authorized to hold school or schedule teachers’ institute, parent/teacher conferences, or staff development activities including school improvement and in-service training on five legal school holidays.
Dolton School District 149 would like to have the flexibility to observe the below listed legal public school holidays on alternate dates, and have the option of using said legal holidays for school attendance days, teacher institute days, and /or full day parent/teacher conference days. These modification requests are and have been a result of combined discussions between the teaching staff, and administration in an attempt to eliminate as many distractions to the instructional process.
